Surviving in nature is challenging with weather, natural hazards such as deadfall trees and wildlife. Foraging for nutrients is challenging.
Geared for Concrete Cities VS. Untraveled Forests
Very different scenarios, and here’s what I suggest for I have done both:
NOTE: Surviving in the woods can be deadly in states where temperatures get very cold (apply for emergency food stamps!). Consider a warm location or coastal state.
VEGANS: We are especially vulnerable to the cold due to thinner frame.
PHYSICAL HEALTH: You need balanced nutrition.
VEGAN VAGABOND (urban to suburban setting):
– Durable and waterpoof backpack (Waxed canvas, leather, ripstop nylon, TPU [Thermoplastic Polyurethane])
– Water storage (Measure container to ensure proper fit for backpack pocket)
– Outer shell (Anticipation of rain AND extra layer to insulate and keep warm)
– Tank top
– Long sleeve shirt (Natural UV protection)
– Lightweight, warm jacket
– Lightweight shorts
– Durable pants (ripstop, canvas, “real” jeans, etc.)
– 3 pairs underwear (lightweight, breathable)
– 3 pairs socks
– Waterproof boots with good cushioning
– Sturdy, non-bending waterproof paper document storage for your important documents. KEEP ON YOU AT ALL TIMES! (social security, birth certificate, high school diploma, etcetera.)
– Carbon steel knife (Cutting, )
– Compact knife sharpening stone
– Carabiners
– Cord (Tarred mariner line lasts long and slightly sticks to itself, paracord)
– Light source (Solar lamp [used to charge a cell phone or electric lighter])
– Food stamp card (Convenient modern survival luxury)
– Vitamins (Check the content, you can split in half to conserve.)
Basic Survival
🏕️ HOME SITE: Keep food rations in animal-proof and bug-proof containers, airtight and affixed above ground. Tents and sleeping hammocks with tarps are nice. SNAKES: If rattlesnakes or other poisonous snakes are local, keep tent completely closed, immediately fix holes, and wrap sleeping hammocks tightly (without ANY openings) with tarp to prevent them from slithering in to hide.
💧 WATER: Having 2 large water containers with strong plastic handles allows hauling water back home. Fill into a cooler or similar to have water supply for hydrating, cleaning dishes, self hygiene, and perhaps making a small garden (requires double or triple the water).
🥑🍎 FOOD: Vegan fortified whole grain cereal (Grape-nuts high fiber and protein), long lasting fruit (avocado, pineapple, melon, apple), long lasting vegetables (carrots, beets, bell peppers, green beans). Vegan whole grain breads with high fiber and protein combined with nut butter for sandwich Precooked high fiber rice and high fiber/high protein precooked beans (boxed better than canned)
** NOTE: CANNED FOODS ARE NOT GOOD FOR PREGNANCY, BREASTFED BABIES, OR INFANTS. **
Vegan nut milk (Silk is a vegan friendly, favorite brand) (individual containers last longer that refrigerated; almond milk is suggested 6 hours maximum out of a fridge, soy milk maximum 2 hours out of a fridge.)
💰 MONEY: Take surverys online near wifi or with cellular network service on surveyjunkie.com to earn several dollars per day. Walk in to local businesses while clean and well groomed. Provides for toothpaste, floss, soap, phone bill, rations, seeds, transportation, etc.
JOB HUNTING: Find a local FedEx office to print a few resumes for cheap. (KEEP IN YOUR WATERPROOF DOCUMENT FOLDER!) While clean and well groomed and dressed casually, enter a business and introduce yourself, request to speak to a manager about an open position, and provide your resume.
